We love the Old West Cafe

Love Local—A Texas Staple for Breakfast and Lunch

by | Feb 23, 2023 | Love Local, Patient Resources

As Texans, we know a thing or two about good food and even better hospitality.

Our community is full of wonderful people who work every day to improve the neighborhood and help one another out.

That’s why we wanted to start this series, where we shine a spotlight on a new local business every month.

Our passion is helping those with hearing loss manage their treatments and ultimately regain the joys that healthy hearing brings.

However, we know that you and everyone else here in Denton have passions of your own, and we want everyone to know about them.

It is vital to support the community that continues to support us. Local businesses tend to provide you with friendly, personal customer service that you don’t always get with big corporations.

This month we are highlighting the Oldwest Cafe. Oldwest is a Denton staple that always provides you with great service and a full belly!

History of Oldwest Cafe in a Nutshell

In 1999, the corporate world was busy for the Oldwest owner, who worked 80 hours a week. Her family life suffered as time just went by.

Her husband knew that her dream of owning a café was always on her mind, and one day, he came home with a key to a café! What a surprise!

Thus, Oldwest Café was born.

The café has grown since then, and the owners strive to keep the same feeling when customers enter the doors. They want to treat others with the respect they wish to receive.

Oldwest Café invites cowgirls and cowboys to saddle up and take a load off. Be prepared to leave with a smile and a full belly!

Menu Items We Love

While everything is good, two items came to mind when I sat down to write this. My favorites are the Cattle Baron or any of their French toast dishes.

The Cattle Baron—OWC’s interpretation of eggs benedict—this breakfast dish features an English muffin topped with melted smoked Gouda, ham, grilled tomato, and sautéed spinach. Two eggs, hollandaise sauce, chopped bacon, and sliced avocado are added to complete the meal, served with one breakfast side.

Cheyenne French Toast—A cinnamon roll, batter-dipped and grilled to perfection, topped with creamy cream cheese icing, dusted with powdered sugar, and served with two eggs and two slices of your favorite breakfast meat.

Six Shooter—Indulge yourself even more with these two open-face biscuits covered with rich, homemade sausage gravy, topped with a crunchy, hand-breaded chicken-fried steak. This dish is served with one breakfast side, which is topped with more sausage gravy and two eggs.

Train Robber—Did I forget to mention how creative these names are?! A jumbo flour tortilla filled with hashbrowns and a combination of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and ham, smothered with queso, then topped with jalapeños, sour cream, and salsa.

Local and Professional Tip

I’m proud to say I’ve been here numerous times and noticed that they can get swamped at times. This is understandable once you taste their food.

The staff is uber professional and handles the rushes with ease.

But for a more relaxed environment, visit the OWC around 10:00 a.m. on weekdays. Most of the time they are not busy, and you’ll get to know the staff a bit better; they are lovely people.
