Taking care of your hearing health is one of the most vital steps you can take to stay connected with loved ones, maintain your independence, and support your overall well-being.

If you've been exploring modern hearing solutions, you've likely noticed how far technology has progressed over the years. Among the options available today, Phonak Lyric stands out due to its unique design and placement deep inside your ear.

While traditional hearing aids sit behind the ear or in the outer portion of the ear canal, Lyric takes a completely different physical approach. It's positioned deep inside the ear canal, approximately 4 to 6 millimeters from your eardrum.

Because it remains deep in the ear canal, Lyric isn't something you take out at night or insert every morning; it's an extended-wear device designed to stay in place continuously for months at a time, depending on your individual ear anatomy and battery longevity.

From sleeping to showering, resting to reconnecting with loved ones, Lyric is your constant hearing companion, and nobody even knows it’s there!

How You Benefit from Continuous 24/7 Sound

When considering hearing aids, daily maintenance can often feel like an extra burden. You benefit from a continuous-wear approach because Lyric eliminates many of the daily tasks standard devices require.

  • No Daily Battery Changes or Charging: You don't need to purchase micro-batteries, open small battery doors, or plug in charging docks every night.

  • No Morning Insertion or Evening Removal: You wake up already hearing clearly.

  • Seamless Integration into Daily Routines: You can exercise, talk on the phone, sleep, and even shower without removing the device. (Note that Lyric is water-resistant, not fully waterproof, so submersion like scuba diving or swimming underwater isn't advised).

You can rest assured that your hearing support remains constant throughout your day and night, eliminating the sound gaps that occur when taking off traditional devices before bedtime.

Natural Acoustics Through Smart Placement

Your outer ear is naturally designed to catch sound waves and funnel them into your ear canal. Traditional hearing aids that capture sound outside the ear must rely on digital signal processing to simulate these natural directional cues.

Because sound enters the outer ear naturally and travels into the canal before reaching Lyric's microphone, you retain natural sound localization. This helps you determine where sounds are coming from around you.

When an object blocks the outer canal, your own voice can sound hollow or echoey (known as occlusion). Placing Lyric deep near the eardrum reduces the space between the device and your eardrum, minimizing feedback and providing a more natural sound experience when you speak.

Lyric uses analog sound processing to amplify signals naturally without the delay or artificial sound qualities that some individuals perceive in digital processing. The result? Clear, crisp hearing without having to fiddle with devices or settings.

What to Expect During the Lyric Fitting Process

Because Lyric is placed close to the delicate eardrum, it can't be bought off the shelf or self-installed. You benefit from a personalized assessment conducted by a certified hearing care professional.

During an initial evaluation, our Lyric specialists examine your ear canal using microscopic magnification to check skin health, canal shape, and distance to the eardrum.

Devices come in seven different sizes (from XXS to XXL) to ensure a comfortable, secure fit against your canal walls. The soft, breathable, biocompatible foam seals the contour to your canal, allowing moisture vapor to escape while holding the device securely in place.

When the battery eventually drains after several weeks or months, you simply visit us for a quick replacement procedure that takes only a few minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lyric

Q: What happens if I experience ear canal discomfort, and can I remove the device myself in an emergency?

A: While Lyric is designed for professional placement and removal, every wearer receives a specialized magnetic tool called a SoundLync. If you experience unexpected discomfort, medical issues, or an emergency where you need to remove the device immediately, you can safely extract Lyric yourself using this tool. Once removed, however, the device cannot be reinserted by yourself; you'll need to visit your hearing care professional for a new placement.

Q: Is Lyric suitable for all types and degrees of hearing loss, as well as all ear canal shapes?

A: No, Lyric isn't suitable for everyone. It's engineered specifically for individuals with mild to moderately severe hearing loss. Physical ear canal constraints play a major role; if your ear canal is unusually narrow or sharply curved, or if you have medical conditions such as active ear infections or perforated eardrums, Lyric may not be recommended. A thorough otoscopic examination and sizing assessment by our team will determine your exact candidacy.

Q: Can I undergo medical imaging procedures, such as an MRI or CT scan, while wearing Lyric?

A: You’ll need to have the device safely removed by your provider prior to an MRI. However, for CT scans or standard X-rays, Lyric is generally safe to leave in place, though you should always notify your radiology technician and medical team beforehand so they're aware of the device in your ear canal.

  • Great people, easy to work with and easily available. I’m glad I got my hearing aids and that I was patient enough to get accustomed to them. I very seldom have to ask people, especially my grands, to repeat themselves anymore.
