Keeping Little Ears Safe from Swimmer’s Ear
Swimmer’s ear occurs whenever water or moisture gets trapped in the ear canal.
Although the audiologists at Denton Hearing Health Care are able to treat the condition, we’d rather prevent it from happening in the first place, especially when it comes to children.

Symptoms of Swimmer’s Ear
Swimmer’s ear symptoms start off as itching and redness inside the ear and can include the drainage of a clear, odorless fluid. The discomfort usually causes your child to pull on the outer ear or push on the tragus (the bump in front of your ear) in an attempt to get relief.
Moderate conditions progress to more intense itching, pain and aching, extensive redness, and excessive fluid drainage as well as a feeling of stuffiness and muffled sound. If left untreated at that point, the pain might begin to radiate into the face, neck, or side of the head, cause a complete blockage in the ear canal, lead to inflammation in the lymph nodes in your neck, and a fever.
In its advanced stages, swimmer’s ear can do permanent damage to your child’s hearing.

Custom Earmolds Protect Your Ears Against Swimmer’s Ear
Swim molds are specialized earplugs made of waterproof silicone in order to create a tight seal, preventing water from flowing into the ear canal. They are custom molded to ensure a tight, snug fit in the ear canal.
They are recommended for a wide variety of water-related activities, such as:
Boating
Jet skiing
Canoeing and kayaking
Rafting
Paddle boarding
Swimming
Bathing and showering
Attending waterparks
Doing water aerobics
Custom swim molds offer protection from outer ear infections, such as otitis externa (swimmer’s ear) or exostosis (surfer’s ear). The former comes from water that has been infected with bacteria, common in public pools and water parks, while the latter is caused by water exposure in combination with cold temperatures and wind, leading to abnormal bone growth in the ear canal.

This place is amazing. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I cannot say enough about Dr Makenzie Childress very knowledgeable and informative during my hearing test.

Great people, easy to work with and easily available. I’m glad I got my hearing aids and that I was patient enough to get accustomed to them. I very seldom have to ask people, especially my grands, to repeat themselves anymore.
